Drew Barrymore has confirmed that Adam Sandler has written a sequel to the 1996 sports comedy “Happy Gilmore.”

The actress shared her excitement about the upcoming film sequel. The original film starred Sandler as the title character, who discovers a talent for golf to save his grandmother’s home.

Barrymore teased the sequel on her talk show, confirming that the project is in the works. Christopher McDonald, who played Shooter McGavin in the original film, hinted at the sequel, and Barrymore reached out to Sandler to confirm the news.  “I want it. I need it. And I stayed up last night with my daughter watching Billy Madison,” Barrymore says in a social media video.

“I sent Sandler a video of that, and then he sent me another video back, and I’m waiting to see if he’s confirming about the Happy Gilmore 2 script.”

Barrymore then looked down at her phone and announced, “This just in, I have breaking news…I’ll just say this, from my source, that it is in process. There is a process, and that process is in process.”
