Daryl Hall has obtained a temporary restraining order against his Hall & Oates bandmate, John Oates, following a mysterious lawsuit.

The lawsuit, filed by Hall and his trust, The Daryl Hall Revocable Trust, against Oates and two co-trustees, is sealed and was submitted on November 16 in the Nashville Chancery Court.

The temporary restraining order, granted on November 17, involves a $50,000 restraining bond. Summonses were issued to Oates and co-trustees Aimee Oates and Richard Flynn. A motion for an out-of-state attorney to join the case was also filed. Representatives for both musicians have not commented on the situation.

While the bandmates have taken hiatuses from Hall & Oates in the past, they most recently performed as a duo for several concerts throughout 2022.

In March 2022, Hall expressed uncertainty at the prospect of coming back together for a new album anytime soon. “I have no idea. I don’t have any plans to work with John. I mean, whatever. Time will tell,” he told The Los Angeles Times.

During an appearance on the Club Random with Bill Maher podcast in September 2022, Hall emphasized that Oates is strictly his business partner rather than a creative one.

Oates had released a reggae version of their 1982 hit “Maneater” earlier in the year, but it’s unclear if Hall had listened to it. “Nope, I haven’t heard from him,” he said at the time. “I’m not even sure if he has or hasn’t heard it.”
