United States President Joe Biden surprised Elton John on Friday night (September 23rd) by awarding him the prestigious National Humanities Medal for his advocacy in the global fight against to help rid the world of AIDS through the Elton John AIDS Foundation which was founded in 1992.

Elton, yeah we’re on a first name basis, had just performed a mini-set on the South Law at the White House which was a concert titled “A Night When Hope and History Rhyme,” in collaboration with A&E Networks and The History Channel.

Elton was moved by the tribute saying: “I’m never flabbergasted, but I’m flabbergasted.”
